AFL promotes Rosanna Butler to head of commercial partnerships

The AFL has elevate Rosanna Butler to head up its commercial partnerships team.

She replaces Jo Gilbert who has been appointed into the newly created position of head of sustainability,  designed to drive the AFL’s sustainability approach.

Butler has climbed through the ranks since joining the sports organisation in early 2019 as partnerships manager, having been promoted to national partnerships manager in late 2020, and now head of commercial partnerships.

Butler shared the news of her appointment on LinkedIn this week.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as head of commercial partnerships at AFL – Australian Football League,” wrote Butler.

“Huge thank you to Jo Gilbert who has created an amazing team and legacy to build on – incredibly excited for the next challenge.”

Prior to joining the AFL, Butler spent five years in various roles at AFL Victoria.

In the new role, Butler will be responsible for e strategic and operational oversight of AFL Commercial Function including the delivery of commercial partnerships spanning the AFL’s elite and second tier AFL and AFLW competitions, Community Football, and Marvel Stadium.

Her remit will include creating, delivering and renewing strategic and values-led partnerships, maximising revenue and delivering on strategic partner objectives, while leading AFL’s partnerships team.

Of the appointments, Sarah Fair, executive general manager of people at the AFL, said: “A key priority for the AFL is accelerating the career progression of our talented women to senior leadership positions. The AFL has significantly invested in talent and development programs for our women and Rosie, Jo, Eloise, and Lauren are great examples of our strong talent pipeline. Women now make up almost 45% of senior leadership roles at the AFL. We have created a highly inclusive and respectful environment that actively supports and celebrates women visibly leading and succeeding.”
