AFR shows the ratio looks great when you hide all the men
Dr Mumbo is interested to see the online program for the Australian Financial Review’s Innovation Summit, which takes place in Sydney next month.
Given the many conversations about diversity and underrepresentation of women, the ratio of 13 female speakers to 37 male speakers on the Innovation Summit isn’t great, but is by no means the worst Dr Mumbo has seen either.
However, a quick glance at promotions for the event in the AFR itself may give readers a slightly different impression…
With room to show only 12 of the event’s 50 speakers in the ad, by an amazing coincidence, all of them are women.
I did a quick calculation for the probability of selecting 12 women from a pool of 13 women|37 men
0.000000001% random chance that the 12 profiles selected for the article were all women. Or 1 in 9,338,434,700
Might be time the AFR editorial team bought a few lotto tickets.
