Australian journalist awarded 10-day placement at The FT in London

The British High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Mr Paul Madden, today announced the recipient of a new Business Journalism Placement at The Financial Times in London.

The Australian Financial Review’s Markets Editor Peter Wells will spend 10 days working from The Financial Times’ London office researching and writing business stories for an Australian audience.

The placement, being offered by the British High Commission, together with British Airways and The Financial Times, was open to Australian-based journalists interested in researching and writing stories on the UK and its modern links with Australia.

Talking about the initiative, Mr Madden said:

“I was delighted by the quality and number of applications received in our inaugural UK Business Journalism Placement with The Financial Times.

During a turbulent time for the global economy it will be a great opportunity for an Australian journalist to be spending time in London, the world’s premier financial hub,  working at the world’s leading financial newspaper, The FT.

I congratulate Peter on winning this prestigious award.  I’m sure his time at The FT will help him further his journalistic pursuits for The AFR.”

Mr Neil Ager, British Airway’s Regional Commercial Manager for South West Pacific said:

“Australia continues to be a key market for British Airways having flown between the UK and Australia for over 75 years.  We value the support of the media and are delighted with the calibre of applicants who are interested in travelling to the UK to fulfil the Business Journalism Placement.  Our congratulations to Mr Wells for winning this placement and we look forward to welcoming him on board British Airways to London.”
