AFR’s Rich List editor John Stensholt heads to The Australian

Australian Financial Review reporter and Rich List editor John Stensholt is headed to The Australian after almost 19 years with Fairfax Media.

Stensholt was based in Fairfax Media’s Melbourne newsroom and reports on business, news, personal finance and the business of sport.

He has also been the editor of AFR’s Rich List, formerly known as the BRW Rich List.

In his new role at The Australian, Stensholt will be responsible for a project which The Australian is reporting as ‘The Stensholt Index’.

Stensholt took to Twitter to announce the news: “Yep, it’s true. I’ll be heading over to The Australian soon. Looking forward to a new challenge and a great team.”

“Have no doubt it will upend the reporting of Australia’s richest,” Margin Call’s editor Will Glasgow and columnist Christine Lacy, wrote.

The announcement came the same day as the news Stephen Bartholomeusz, associate editor at Business Spectator would return to Fairfax Media, after more than 10 years.

Bartholomeusz was the associate editor of The Age for more than 20 years.

He will now work as a columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

In a note to staff, James Chessell, Fairfax Media’s group executive editor, described Bartholomeusz as “one of Australia’s most respected business journalists.”

“Stephen has earned a well-deserved reputation for quality, insight and attention to detail during a long career which began in 1975 at The Sun News-Pictorial,” he said.

The latest announcements come two weeks after Fairfax Media’s contributing editor Michael Pascoe announced his departure.
