chrissy swan can of wormsThe second night of the official ratings season was a brutal one for Ten, with the network dropping below a 10 per cent share and running a distant fourth behind its rivals.

The return of the network’s panel show Can Of Worms managed just 351,000 capital city viewers to run 29th for Monday  – beaten by Ten’s afternoon soap The Bold And The Beautiful with 416,000, according to preliminary OzTAM ratings.

That was despite the publicity host Chrissie Swan received after her revelations in the last few days she smoked while pregnant . The ratings were similar to those achieved by the network’s dance contest Everybody Dance Now, which was axed last year.

After topping one million viewers on Sunday, Ten’s MasterChef: The Professionals shed almost half of its viewers to record 568,000 last night, again swamped by Seven’s My Kitchen Rules and also The Block: All Stars on Nine.

MKR averaged 1.8 million, down slightly on the 2m+ audiences it was generating before the ratings season kicked in.

The Block: All Stars continued to improve, averaging about 1.137m viewers.

But ABC1’s 7.30, featuring an interview with sports scientist Stephen Dank who is at the centre of sports doping allegations, also had a strong night with 903,000 tuning in.

Seven won the night with a 25.7 per cent audience share, ahead of Nine  (23.6 per cent), ABC1 (15.1 per cent), Ten (9.3 per cent) and SBS1 (2.9 per cent).

Nine News beat Seven News by 1.234m to 1.194m, while Nine’s A Current Affair beating Seven’s first Helen Kapalos-hosted Today Tonight by 1.135m to 1.030m, with the margin being particularly wide in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Ten pointed out that in the demographics its advertisers focus on, it had six of the top 20 shows among 16 to 39-year-olds.
