AirAsia X announces return as City2Surf official airline partner

AirAsia X will return as the City2Surf’s official airline partner for a second time.

The announcement:

AirAsia X (AAX), one of Asia’s leading low-cost airlines, is set to return for the second consecutive year as the official airline partner of Sydney’s City2Surf event this 11 August 2024.

As a great value airline, AAX is set to provide a welcome boost of international participants from Malaysia and across Asia to Sydney, ahead of the premier running event. With less than a few weeks to go, AAX is encouraging enthusiasts to get their running shoes ready with fares on sale now from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney starting from just AUD339* on Economy Seats and AUD799* on Premium Flatbed each way.

For Sydneysiders, this also means fares to Kuala Lumpur are also on sale now from the same price for a great value getaway to the Malaysian Capital and from there, onto over 130 destinations spanning Asia and beyond.

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said the airline is thrilled to partner once again with one of Sydney’s iconic outdoor events. He said: “Sydney remains one of our core destinations and we look forward to boosting the destination by flying entrants and spectators from Malaysia, across Asia and beyond to participate in what is undoubtedly the world’s best fun run with our great value fares.

“In true AAX style, we will be running a number of exciting promotional activities leading up to and during the event. Our world-class Fun Team will be on hand, and you’ll have the chance to win flights to key destinations we fly to, exclusive AirAsia merchandise, and more. Visit our branded booths at The Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park starting line, and at the AirAsia X marquee in the finish line event zone at the world-famous Bondi Beach.

“This partnership with The IRONMAN Group provides many synergies and is a great fit for our brand. City2Surf is not just about running, it is about fun and entertainment and suited to everyone from every fitness level which aligns with our tagline ‘Now Everyone Can Fly.’

“Every participant will be certainly flying high as they view the breathtaking scenery of one of the world’s most beautiful harbour cities, and particularly as they approach the finish line on the stunning Bondi Beach. We look forward to welcoming as many international participants from Malaysia and beyond on board soon.”

Jeremy Kann, vice president, global partnerships Asia Pacific for The IRONMAN Group, welcomed AirAsia X back to the iconic event. He said: “The City2Surf team is thrilled to have AirAsia X partnering with us once again for an event to remember,” said Kann. “This year’s City2Surf is set to be our biggest ever with a sold out field of 90,000 runners expected and we’re looking forward to having the AirAsia X team with us for the journey to the start and finish line on Sunday 11 August.”

AAX resumed direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney in September 2022 post pandemic. The airline flies daily on the popular route (and up to 11 times weekly during peak periods). AAX also flies the comfortable widebody A330 aircraft on the route, featuring Premium Flatbeds with life flat beds, comfy pillows, duvet and complimentary meals for less than the cost of an economy seat on a full service airline. From Kuala Lumpur, Australian guests can connect onto 130 destinations throughout AirAsia’s broad network including India, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, China and many more – always at the best value prices.
