Alan Partridge comes to Comedy Channel

Alan Partridge’s Mid Morning Matters comes to Foxtel’s Comedy Channel in 2012.

The show is the first Partridge series for actor Steve Coogan in eight years, originally written as branded content for beer company, Fosters’ website, Fosters Funny.co.uk.

Coogan announced the series in 2010, in character: “I am delighted to announce that after years as a regional broadcaster on North Norfolk Digital my groundbreaking radio segment, Mid Morning Matters, will now be accessible to a potential audience of billions via the World Wide Web (www). That it has taken Foster’s to help realise my dream of joining the information superhighway is a damning indictment of the established broadcasters whose shabby treatment of me on Sept 10th 2001 was frankly shabby. I made dozens of calls the next day, all of which were ignored. My appreciation must go to Armando Iannucci and Baby Cow for ignoring the lies, God bless them. In the meantime I look forward to “hanging out ‘n’ chillin” with the MySpace generation.”

The synopsis of the series reads: “After an eight year absence, Alan Partridge is back and his star has fallen even further as he hosts daytime radio show “Mid-Morning Matters”, an all new platform for his trademark mix of banality, wincingly tasteless comments and disturbing insights.”

Irene Read, BBC Worldwide Australia’s sales manager of subscription television said: “Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge is an icon of comedy and it’s great to have him back. This package for The Comedy Channel is British comedy at its best, with Steve Coogan at the heart of it.”

The license deal with BBC Worldwide will see The Comedy Channel host Steve Coogan’s return in his Alan Partridge character in Mid Morning Matters, but also Coogan series and specials; Steve Coogan – the Inside Story, Coogan’s Run, Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge and other Less Successful Characters, Steve Coogan – the Man Who Thinks He’s It.

The deal also includes Alan Carr: Tooth Fairy, Red Dwarf series 1, 2, 7 and 8, and the 2009 special, Red Dwarf – Back to Earth.
