Dr Mumbo

All I want post Christmas is a Divorce Gift List

Dr Mumbo has identified a new gap in the market for Myer and David Jones – a divorce gift list service.

While the retailers already have a gift and bridal registry, Debenhams – a major retail chain in the UK – has taken it a step further by launching a gift service for all those married couples who don’t end up living happily ever after.

Peter Moore, Debenhams’ head of retail services, had this logical explanation for the launch of the new service: “A divorce means that one partner will be leaving the marital home and therefore be left without any essentials in their new house.

“Divorcing can be an expensive time and registering for a Divorce Gift List means that family and friends can help the newly separated begin their new life.”

The retailer has shrewdly timed the launch of the service in a week when many Britons are heading back to work after the Christmas holidays – apparently peak season for couples to file for divorce.

Dr Mumbo is heartened to hear that even if you’re at your lowest ebb, wondering where it all went so horribly wrong, you’ll at least be able to register for that Debenhams divorce gift list and get the plasma screen TV and fluffy designer towels you always wanted.

Now, if only they delivered to Australia. Myer and David Jones – any thoughts?
