Allianz burns down house in new ad
A new ad for Allianz burned down a house to make the shoot more realistic, the director of the campaign has revealed.
The Mercer Bell ad – part of the Ahh-lianz series – features a man popping out for a food ingredient and leaving a burner on. By the time he gets back, his home is on fire.
A further ad will feature a real car crash.
Director Abe Forsythe, part of the Jungleboys stable, said: “Knowing what a difference it makes to have things take place for real, I had a strong desire to place the actors in real life situations. So we really burnt down a house and staged a multi-car pile up. It was fantastic to have the freedom from MercerBell and Allianz to set up an environment that really encouraged the actors to do their best.”
The ads feature a cast including Jeremy Sims (Stingers), Helen Dallimore (Wicked the Musical) and stuntman Grant Page (Mad Max).
MercerBell ECD David Bell said: “Abe was able to attract a cast of Aussie talent usually seen on TV shows rather than commercials. He has given these spots a unique Aussie flavour.”
The TVCs are supported by outdoor, radio and online ads as well as YouTube pre-roll.

They really burn a house yet Sims & faux wife’s portrayed reaction is of trivial inconvenience. There is not enough real devastation transferred or felt.
Upper middle class people don’t actually burn down their homes, (ask any Firey what demographic actually burns their house down) but they do buy insurance and no doubt are where 95% of the the profits are at – this ad is (imho) is not hard hitting enough to motivate the smart and conservative classes into action. Passes over like another Adam Sandler movie trailer.

Which part of ‘look-ya-duffa-there-was-parsley-at-the-letterbox-all-along’ ironic humour was real life?

Was the house was insured with Allianz?

Nicely made ad. Makes you wonder if the cook had been female, not male, what hell, squealing and ranting would have broken loose from the usual quarters. Apparently a man can be depicted as an idiot without fear of retribution.
The stubble was the giveaway – he thinks its still the 1990’s so no wonder he’s out of touch with reality.

Liked this ad, better than that annoying chick with the flooded house prouncing around screeching like a banshee in their other ad!
Eric T Bear – the parsley was at the house they leased, not their own.

This ad was shot near my house. Sorry to disillusion everyone but they didnt really burn a house down. They added a facade on to the front of a house and rigged up gas burners around the fake broken windows. These were turned on and off for various practice runs and real takes.
