MCM Media boss Simon Joyce is to leave after more than five years at the helm and more than a decade with the company.

News of his departure came in a brief announcement from the company:

“The MCM Entertainment Group has announced the departure of Simon Joyce as CEO, effectively immediately.

“Joyce will continue to act in a consultancy capacity to the business until 2014.

“MCM Founder Tony McGinn thanked Joyce for his 13 years’ service, and acknowledged his contribution to the growth of the MCM Media business.

“‘Simon has played a key role in the growth of our Media business and has served the company with great passion and commitment. After 13 years with MCM we understand Simon’s need to spread his wings and we are happy to support him as he does. Simon leaves this business with our very best wishes for his future success’ said Tony McGinn.

“The Group CEO role is not being replaced. The MCM Entertainment Group Board will announce a new leadership structure over the coming weeks.”

MCM has had a tumultuous recent history.

2011 saw internal boardroom battles as founder McGinn fought to oust the company’s chairman at the time Julian Playoust. The battle was triggered by whether the company should focus on its entertainment offerings – it makes syndicated radio shows – or its video platform.

In 2012 the company delisted from the ASX.

In March Jonathan Hopkins joined MCM as chief strategy and marketing officer. And last week Mumbrella revealed the departure of digital commercial director Lachlan Brahe to ComScore.

Hopkins said that nobody was available to comment, and that a new leadership structure will be announced shortly.
