Alpha Digital appoints its first CEO Sam Wood

Alpha Digital has appointed its first CEO, Sam Wood.

Founder and managing director, Matt Cooper, has become Alpha Digital’s chairman, enabling him to concentrate on establishing advertiser-focused agency, Springboard Digital.

Wood has been with the business for eight years, spending the last six as general manager.

Wood’s promotion follows the addition of 10 new clients to Alpha Digital’s roster since April, including Morgans Financial, QUT and Tradelink. In March, the agency hired Tobey Bower as commercial director and Grant Collins as head of digital experience.

Despite the challenges involved with dropping ad spend due to the coronavirus pandemic, Wood said he was proud of how the team has performed.

“I’m proud of how well our team has performed over the past few months. Congratulations to Tobey who’s flourished in his newly appointed role, and the supporting team that has expanded the depth and breadth of our partnerships with clients such as My Homecare, Cloudscene, M.J. Bale, Tradelink and Beds & Dreams,” he said.

The agency has disclosed that no staff were put out of work by the pandemic.

Following his promotion from head of digital performance to client strategy director, Christopher Lockwood will also be taking over some of the day-to-day client responsibilities from Wood.

Cooper said he looked forward to the new era of the business.

“As Alpha establishes itself as one of Australia’s most highly regarded digital marketing agencies, Springboard is here for the Australian business needing sound digital marketing fundamentals and help making sense of the complex, ever evolving digital world. I have a strong feeling of pride in the company Sam and I have built and excitement for the new era under his stewardship,” Cooper said.
