Amazon publishes self-distribution white paper

US online giant Amazon.com has published a white paper on self-distribution, to promote the services of its CreateSpace division for independent filmmakers worldwide.

“The ability to set up and distribute films is available to filmmakers worldwide. Filmmakers want to understand the how their products will be listed on Amazon.com and how they can track sales and royalties,” Mike Haney, director of content Aquisition for CreateSpace,  told Encore.

CreateSpace is offering creatives the opportunity to sell their projects on DVD or as a digital download. According to Haney, independent films are sold on the website like any other DVD or digital product, and producers can track their sales through a real-time, private member dashboard they can access 24/7.

“Titles setup for DVD on Demand or digital distribution are available for sale on Amazon.com and its affiliates.  DVD on Demand titles can also be made available through a CreateSpace.com e-store. We currently have thousands of titles available on Amazon.com from independent filmmakers, studios and TV networks – although none specifically denoted as Australian film titles,” said Hanye about the Australian presence on the site.

The white paper is available here.
