AMI rolls out accreditation program for marketing courses and degress

The Australian Marketing Institute has rolled out a new accreditation and endorsement program for university marketing courses.

The announcement:

AUSTRALIAN MARKETING INSTITUTE EQUIPS STUDENTS WITH TOOLS TO SUCCEED

A new university accreditation and endorsement programme is being rolled out across Australian universities and vocational providers to support the next generation of marketing graduates to thrive in an increasingly competitive corporate environment.

Led by the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI), a rigorous vetting process has accredited tertiary and vocational education and training (VET) programmes nation-wide. These AMI accredited or endorsed programmes will provide students with practical skills that will allow them to perform at a high level in a demanding industry.

AMI accredited or endorsed marketing courses will enable students to develop contemporary marketing thinking and concepts. Critically, students on these programmes will learn to formulate objective-based marketing strategies and hone their ability to problem solve and implement theoretical knowledge. The programmes are designed to foster a flexible environment and drive a commitment to a lifetime of continuing marketing education.

Lee Tonitto, Chief Executive of the AMI, sees the accreditation process as an “opportunity to create a marketing industry benchmark, commencing a graduate on a pathway not dissimilar to that of a chartered accountant or certified practicing lawyer. The brightest and the best will go through the AMI Accredited and Endorsed programmes, and participation will shape the formative stages of their
marketing careers”.

“Research shows that universities and degrees aligned with a peak professional body are more attractive to students than non-accredited ones. In the case of international fee-paying students, it is often the deciding factor in selecting one university over another,” said Tonitto.

Professor Andre Bonfer, Head of the Department of Marketing in Deakin Business School, which holds an AMI accreditation, said “the programme signals to our students and employers the high quality and rigor of our courses from an industry perspective. What’s more, it provides a value-add to our students as they have networking opportunities during their studies and can engage with the
industry in multiple ways, including with mentorship programs”.

All graduates of a programme approved by the AMI are entitled to a credit reduction in the time needed to become a Certified Practising Marketer (CPM), fast-tracking their pathway to becoming industry leaders.

Today, 41 marketing courses across 18 Australian universities hold an AMI accreditation.
