Andrew Ashton appointed creative director by The Edison Agency

Precinct Design co-founder Andrew Ashton has been named the new creative director at independent brand and packaging group The Edison Agency.

The Edison Agency was founded in 2017, and has offices in Melbourne and Sydney. Its clients range from Asahi Lifestyle Beverages, The Arnott’s Group, Nestle CPW, Lion (now Bega), to independent brands across FMCG, sports technology and property sectors.

Ashton has over 25 years in the industry, having founded graphic design studio Nelmes Smith Ashton in 1994 with Rick Nelmes and Graeme Smith. The studio was renamed Precinct Design in 1998, and was acquired by The Photon Group (now Enero) in 2001.

He has worked with clients including Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Paper, Australia Post, Country Road and Computershare, and has worked as a lecturer at Monash and Swinburne Universities.

Ashton joins the Edison team with a remit to support the agency’s growth trajectory and reshape its creative offer.

Agency founder Amber Bonney said she’s humbled that Ashton as chosen to join Edison. “Over the past four years, the Edison philosophy has taken hold, resulting in significant growth.

“Our expanded leadership team and growing presence in Sydney means we are now geared up to do more of what we love and excel at – helping brand owners tackle complex portfolio problems, overhauling tired heritage brands and creating new brands from the ground up.”

“His local and international reputation, along with a trophy room of awards, will amplify the work we’ve been doing and offers our current and future partners next level disruption and user-centred creative thinking.”

Ashton said: “Having recently parked my studio, I am excited about the endless possibilities working with Edison and having the support of a fully operational team.”

In addition to Ashton, The Edison Agency recently recruited its first general manager, Michael Tsapazi. The pair join the senior leadership team including CFO, Fiona Currie; group account director, Steven Wren; and agency founder, Bonney.

Rosin Quinn has also joined as a senior designed based in Sydney, while Edison is currently recruiting for a senior account director in Sydney and a national marketing manager.
