Andy Flemming is eaten by a lion (sort of)
For those cynics among you who thought that every second of M&C Saatchi’s recent ad for Optus – which featured flying elephants, crocs and rhinos – involved only digitally animated animals and not the real thing, spare a thought for the agency’s creative director Andy Flemming.
The poor chap was bitten by a lion during the shoot in South Africa.
Really? Well, yes. And here’s the medical certificate to prove it.
And here’s the bite – a savage blow to Flemming’s love handle.
And here’s the culprit, having a play fight with a young hyena, pictured with an unsuspecting Flemming.
“Yes, I got bitten by a lion,” said Flemming. “A nine-month old white lion – while the cowardly producer and art director sat back and watched. It was just a playful nip, but it is without doubt the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.”
What a hero. And here’s that ad, which, unsurprisingly, does not feature the offending lion.

My Zulu’s not too good … but that qualifies as Mzungu Jinga in Swahili!

Nice job Andy, though it seems you took your revenge on the lion by not including him in the final cut.
