Andy Walsh joins Showdown as director of strategy

Andy Walsh has been named strategy director of online sports media company Showdown, the Australia and New Zeland distributor of gaming social video platform Twitch.tv.

Walsh joins Showdown from Listen, a New York based company he founded five years ago. The company specialises in branding, strategy and storytelling. During his time with Listen, Walsh worked with clients including Microsoft, Tinder, Jim Beam, Skype and Virgin.

He has also worked with Junkee Media, Onepartners and IBF Limited.

In his new role, Walsh will report to managing director Scott Wenkart. He will be focused on helping brands understand esports.

Wenkart said the appointment: “Andy has made a considerable impact in shaping how brands think about their role in entertainment and I am excited to see where we take this within Twitch and esports.

“The gaming audience are passionate and respond very well to valuable brand experiences, our aim is set the standard within Australia.

“The sector is still emerging, but I think the size of the market in Australia and globally is going to surprise a lot of people by the end of the year.”

The appointment comes just over a year since Spiral Media rebranded as Showdown.
