Animal Kingdom to expand
David Michôd’s crime drama Animal Kingdom (Madman Entertainment) earned $604,139 on its opening weekend, debuting at #4.
The strong result will see the film expand for the upcoming long weekend.
With 48 screens, the film’s average was a strong $12,5486. It was behind Sex and the City 2 (Roadshow), Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Disney) and Robin Hood (Universal).
In a media statement, producer Liz Watts said the box office result was “a fantastic response to the film”.
It will open in the US on August 13.
In other box office news, The Kings of Mykonos: Wog Boy 2 (Paramount/Transmission) remained at #5, with $556,565 for a total of $4.1m, while I Love You Too (Roadshow) is ending its run with $2.3m since its release on May 6.
