Anne Miles closes ‘no wankers please’ ideas-sharing club to launch production consultancy
An ideas-sharing lunch club and online community that launched last year with the premise that ‘no wankers’ or negative comments were allowed, has closed.
The Commercial Ideas Network was positioned as a “safe haven” from those who make critical comments about other people’s work.
Its founder, Anne Miles, explained: “I found that the network wanted my content but they didn’t need to be online in a community environment – since closing the network down every member has remained in contact and will continue getting my content via email and blog posts.”
Members of Commercial Ideas Network will continue to receive Miles’ content through her new consultancy for the film and video production industry, International Creative Services.
Miles, who takes on the role of executive producer/buyer at the new venture, says she saw the need to provide a service to protect clients new to content-making from inexperienced production companies.
Miles has left director and production collective The DMC Initiative to focus on ICS.
She said in a statement describing the new company: “There are many involved in managing productions these days who are not equipped to protect the clients from wrong supplier choices, inflated budgets, no consideration to the creative needs of the job, cost overruns, poor creative solutions by cutting budgets in the wrong places, and having uncontrolled process.”
“Suppliers who are not experienced in certain roles are now promoting themselves as full service, or in services they are weak, and inexperienced clients can’t discern this until it is too late. At times there is no one representing the stakeholders and the only producers involved are the ones employed by the suppliers with a vested interest in the outcome.”
ICS is positioned as an independent production consultancy whose services include budgeting, training, talent and royalty management, and ‘free ballpark quoting’ on production projects.
Miles said she hopes to offer clients group buying of production services as the business gains momentum.
Love Anne Miles’ work. International Creative Services sounds like a much needed service in this industry. Thanks for sharing.

Criticism is very much a part of creativity, it gives both parties the opportunity to grow, the creative an opportunity to rethink or explain a point/points, or to ignore the comments altogether.
There appears to be a fair quantity of criticism of others in Anne Miles’ quoted statements, which is only right and proper given that anyone who is offering a service must at least have confidence in themselves and what they are doing.
I do not agree that positive reinforcement alone is of any use beyond kindergarten and Koala stamps; and the growing habit of sycophantic cheer leading, is an unfortunate spin off of the dreaded malady of Political Correctness.
If you like it say so, if you hate it say so. The truth is always less injurious than horrible imaginings
