Anomaly hires finance executive for programmatic trading

IPG Mediabrands Australia’s analytics business Anomaly has hired John van Aarde to use financial modelling techniques in programmatic trading.

The announcement:

IPG Mediabrands Australia’s analytics business Anomaly has hired a top executive from the international banking and finance industry to use financial modelling techniques in programmatic trading.

John van Aarde has a nine-year career as an analyst and statistician in banking and finance. At Anomaly he will work closely with IPG Mediabrands’ programmatic trading division Cadreon to develop mathematical models that will aid the effectiveness of programmatic trading in terms of quality, performance and return on investment for clients.

His previous role was for prominent banking group Nomura International where he was head of liquid market analytics, managing a client-facing team and a portfolio of analytics capabilities.

Van Aarde worked for Nomura International for four years and prior to that he was with Lehman Brothers where he modelled and wrote algorithmic trading strategies for stock markets.

“John’s vast experience in developing mathematical models to deliver more efficient trading will directly apply to programmatic trading,” said Anomaly managing director Jarrod Martin. “The key aspects of when to trade, how much to pay and the quantity of any trade closely correlates between stocks and programmatic inventory. We believe his skills will bring important new insights to clients.”

Van Aarde has a PHD in Information Engineering and a Master of Sciences in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing, both from Oxford University.
