ANZ hit by Greenpeace banner campaign
ANZ’s flagship Sydney branch in Martin Place has been targeted by Greenpeace for a banner campaign accusing it of being a polluter.
The campaigning group is targeting the bank over its financial support for the coal industry.
As well as putting up the banner, volunteers targeted passers-by.
The stunt follows October’s “dirty banks” ad created by Greener Media in New York.
not sure I see the point of this video –
“Look we put a banner up in Martin Place for a day. Didn’t we do well.”
& while I appreciate the creative execution of the Dirty Banks ad, the fact of the matter is that raw materials is what keeps Australia’s economy strong. You can’t blame banks for supporting ‘dirty coal power’

Did Greenpeace seek or obtain the various permissions to carry this out, and were fees paid to the council as they would be for any other commercial activation?
If so we’d like to see the evidence please.
Or is Sydney City Council indulging in political onanism at the public expense?

I would have though Australia’s greatest resource is our abundant sunshine and dry climate; not a limited substance found beneath the ground.
Renewable energy has come a long way in the last decade. It is powerful, clean, efficient and creates jobs. Booming economies like Germany and Spain are flourishing with renewable energy sources.

I think that is why there were police there. Bad news for ANZ. A court case is only going to get more media exposure and drag on for longer. Most people wouldn’t have stopped to see what was happening (just another billboard) if the police didn’t turn it into a scene.
