AOC encourages kids to have a go in new campaign

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has launched a new campaign via M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment.

The campaign, titled “Have A Go”, was released for Olympic Day today, 23 June.

The 30-second spot contains a montage of children playing various sports, including skateboarding, surfing, swimming, and basketball. A voiceover encourage the kids to overcome the obstacles they face.

Richie Butterworth, head of sponsorship at M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment, said: “‘Have A Go’ is based on the insight that Aussies punch above our weight in sport and defy the odds. It’s in our DNA. Not everyone’s journey to the Olympics was a path of glory. Some athletes never made their high school teams, some weren’t instant stars in their sport, but they tried harder, they kept turning up and had a go.”

The campaign will be run from today throughout the duration of the Olympics, featured by AOC’s media partners JC Decaux, News Corp and Channel 7.

Ian Chesterman, chef de mission of the Australian Olympic Team, said: “On Olympic Day it’s important to remember the vital role that athletes play in the community. When they return from the Tokyo Olympic Games they will return to communities across the nation. They will return to their clubs, towns and suburbs and they will bring an important message of inspiration for the next generation of potential Australian Olympians.”

AOC’s latest campaign

Matt Carroll, CEO at AOC, said: “Increasing participation and ‘Have A Go’ is about more than growing Olympic sport, it’s about bringing communities together, creating vital connections and being inclusive, this is something that deserves real celebration.”

In March 2019, M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment was appointed as the official creative communications agency for the AOC’s Tokyo campaign.

Seven is currently set to broadcast the Tokyo Olympics in Australia, which is planned to go ahead next month despite COVID-19 concerns.
