April Fool’s Day: Dr Mumbo laments another year of PR pranks

It is the eve of April Fool’s Day and Dr Mumbo has already seen enough brands turned pranksters to suffice for another 12 months. Or preferably longer.

Full disclosure… Dr Mumbo knows this only encourages this kind of behaviour. But for that reason, Dr Mumbo is returning the listicle to cover off 2023.

Pernod Ricard premium whisky brand The Glenlivet launches The Goonlivet

The Glenlivet and Maybe Sammy have attempted to make the Scottish liquor more appealing to Australian tastes, launching a boxed version of the 12-year-old whiskey.

Dr Mumbo doesn’t know whether this one is a joke or not, but appreciates the nod to the cost of living crisis nonetheless.

“BeReel”: Tinder perma-bans fishing pics

Tinder has finally listened to the people and implemented a long-overdue ban on “fish pics”.

“We are always listening to our members and it’s clear that the ubiquitous fish pic is something that needs to be addressed on our app,” said Sal Mon, head of community pictures at Tinder.

Dr Mumbo thinks this is a great initiative from the folks at Tinder, and hopes Hinge and Bumble will swiftly take note. Let’s extend this beyond 1 April.

Hard FIZZ finally hardens up and brews beer so FISHER can drink with his mates again

Australian beer drinkers will be relieved to know they will no longer be short of choice when they go to the bar, as seltzer brand Hard Fizz ditches the fruity water for a proper frothy.

Dr Mumbo actually quite enjoys a fruity water, and would be very upset if this is not a prank.

SEA LIFE Melbourne launches Jellyfish Diving!

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium has opened up the jellyfish exhibit to those who are brave enough to take a dip – but will not be held responsible in the likely case of injury.

Patrick Noble, curatorial displays supervisor at Sea Life Melbourne said: “Jellyfish Dive Xtreme is the first of its kind in the world and it’s not for the faint-hearted! Guest feedback was they wanted to get closer than ever to our jellyfish, so we decided to make it happen!”

Dr Mumbo thinks this experience sounds like much less fun than RedBallon’s dig friendly Scuba-DOO Snorkeling gag last year.

Virgin Australia introduces Fly Cleaning

Virgin Australia has created a concept that Dr Mumbo hopes will one day become real, introducing a dry cleaning service in the sky.

“I know how stressful it can be arriving home from the airport to mountains of dirty laundry, particularly for young families, so we are thrilled to announce the first-ever Fly Cleaning service,” said Virgin Australia group general manager product and customer, Sarah Adam.

ME Bank teams up with Hollywood A-listers for finance tips from the rich and famous

ME Bank has launched a fake podcast called ‘Banking with the Stars’.

Dr Mumbo warns readers that the voice actors used are NOT in fact the real Arnold Schwarzenegger and Liam Neeson, so this one makes for a hard listen.
