ARIA Chart: Chisel makes it four Aussie #1s in four weeks

Cold Chisel has landed at #1 with its latest best-of compilation, marking 50 years since the formation of the band.

This also marks Chisel’s fifth #1 with a best-of compilation (they also scored a #1 with a rarities collection Teenage Love), and makes it four different Aussie acts that have debuted at top spot with an album over the past four weeks.

According to ARIA, the last time four (or more) consecutive Australian albums held the top spot was in 2015, when Parkway Drive, triple j Like A Version 11, Boy & Bear, Hillsong, and 5 Seconds Of Summer each held #1 for a week each, over five weeks.

“A nine-year first is absolutely phenomenal,” said ARIA chief Annabelle Herd.

“Even in what is perhaps the most challenging environment Australian music has faced, we can still achieve amazing success, which I truly hope excites and inspires our whole industry.”

Chisel also managed to hold Post Malone off the top spot, with the singer’s first country record, F-1 Trillion, debuting at #2.

Hardcore band Falling In Reverse also debuted well, with their #7 entry for Popular Monster, while outside of the Top 20, Aussie electronica band Telenova debuted at #23 with Time Is A Flower.

Over on the Singles chart, Billie Eilish reign supreme for a second week in a row, while the release of Post Malone’s album has pushed his Morgan Wallen duet back up to #3.

The highest debut came from Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, who crashed in at #10 with their duet Die With A Smile – in fact, it was the only new single to debut within the Top 50 this week.
