ARIA Charts: Pet Shop Boys score a hit album

Taylor Swift remains on top of the albums and singles chart this week, but as her flood of new songs drip down the charts, other singles rise.

Fortnight, Swift’s song with Post Malone, sits at #1, while Sabrina Carpenter’s undeniable earworm Espresso — which Time has already claimed as frontrunner for the US “song of the summer” — climbs from #17 to #2.

A Bar Song (Tipsy) by the appropriately named Shaboozey jumped even higher still, from #34 to #3, while former #1, Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, is back in the high reaches, at #4.

The highest new entry is Million Dollar Baby by Tommy Richman (also appropriately named), which debuted at #33.

Those people claiming things are just like ‘1984’ might have a point, as the Pet Shop Boys sit in the national albums chart at #3 – with their new record Nonetheless continuing their penchant for one-word album titles.

Above the British duo are Taylor Swift and SZA, while 5 Seconds of Summer vocalist Luke Hemmings landed his new solo outing, Boy, at #4.

The Weeknd has climbed from #7 to #5, but will no doubt swiftly drop down the chart now he has cancelled his Aussie tour.

Icelandic singer Laufey has refreshed her 2023 album Bewitched with a handful of new tracks, seeing it jump back into the Top 50 at #6, its highest entry to date, while the rest of the Top 20 is fairly uneventful, albums slightly sliding up and down the chart.

Slightly lower, Jimmy Barnes’ Flesh and Wood vinyl reissue has jumped in at #22, one spot ahead of Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter, which debuted at #2 last week.
