ARN’s $12m 4KQ sale to Sports Entertainment Group goes through
HT&E’s ARN has sold 4KQ to the Sports Entertainment Group for $12 million.
The sale follows HT&E’s acquisition of Grant Broadcasters last year.
Due to ACMA regulations, ARN was required to sell 4KQ, caused by the company reaching its threshold of broadcast licenses in the broader Brisbane region.
The acquisition expands Sports Entertainment Group’s owned radio platform and audience reach with 35 stations now in operation and now in all capital cities and states.
Craig Hutchison, SEG’s managing director: “We know Queenslanders love their sport. 693 SENQ will provide a unique offering and constant sporting content like never before as Queensland’s only dedicated sports station. We already have great momentum with ‘Breakfast with Pat & Heals’ and I look forward to announcing more Queensland specific content in the coming months. Our business model is sport, and parochial sport is at the heart of that. Queenslanders love their state and its teams and we are excited to play our role in amplifying that passion.”
Shame on you replacing a great Brisbane family entertainment institution with a soulless and bland avenue for gambling… b#st#rds.

Sorry you’ve lost me as a listener the music 4kq plays is why I listen and Laurel, Gary and Mark are the best breakfast. Guess I can get rid of my radio now and listen to Spotify more for my music.

After travelling the world, listening to stations globally, 4KQ has the best mix and variety of music, music to advertisement ratio and fantastic announcers and DJ’s, The loss of 4KQ is seriously so disappointing, I am.in Sydney, and the reach 4KQ has is incredible, I wish the silent majority like me had a voice to be able to fight the loss of our favorite station, One of the best things about 4KQ is that I hear music I haven’t heard for a long time, and it’s not a high A rotation station, so it always feels fresh, I can only hope the Program managers and key staff and announcers can find an alternative place ( streaming or live to air or both), I for one will subscribe immediately ., it’s a sad day for Baby Boomers, In my case my 2 favorite stations are 4KQ and Nova 96.6, I love music from all the decades since the late 50s to now ( rap was a challenge)., who will I listen to now while I cruise Sydney and other capitals of the world, Spotify does not cut it, I love the surprise of what songs are next, anyway, hope the Guys and Girls at 4KQ find a niche somewhere we can find, good luck all, will miss you… Richard

What a loss, who wants Sport 24/7.
We have listened to 4KQ since the early 80s when we arrived to live in Brisbane.
Now that we live in regional QLD, we stream 4KQ upon iheart radio.
The only station that broadcasted our preferred music, it will be sorely missed.
The only music stations these days are the one that cater to teenagers and genZ, not for us, we are proud baby boomers.
We will now have tosee where else we can listen to our music locally.
So sorry SENQ, younill, not get us to listen to sport 24/7, which will be so boring and repetitive.

I always had 4KQ on when I’m working with my clients or in both our cars. We will no longer be listening to that station any more. Will now be using Spotify or my cd’s. Such a pity as they had such a great variety of music and didn’t speak so much nonsense like the other stations.
One more era gone. So sad.
