Aussie advertising has its mojo back

In this week's Mumbrellacast research reveals that more than half of Australians would support a ban on wagering ads across all broadcast channels before 10:30pm, while the team unpacks TV ratings as programming for Q1 comes to a close, with a clear winner emerging as a favourite for Australian viewers. Then, 72andSunny's Andy Flemming and Innocean's Wez Hawes join the podcast for an audio campaign review, sharing their takes on a big month of advertising.

The Australian Gambling Research Centre this week revealed that 53% of Australians would support a ban on wagering ads across all broadcast channels before 10:30pm. The team discuss the current regulatory landscape for advertisers, as well as what the proposed regulations could look like, looking at why gambling brands and media owners will continue to advertise wagering products so long it it is legally allowed.

Next, with Ten’s Australian Survivor and Seven’s Australian Idol all wrapped up, and Nine’s MAFS closing in on the finale as well, the team takes a look at TV ratings for Q1. With the contest between the three network’s first tentpole shows of the year having come to the end, the team breaks down the trends, looking back at previous years to assess how TV viewership is evolving.

Then, 72andSunny lead creative, Andy Flemming, and Innocean executive creative director, Wez Hawes, share their thoughts on four major pieces of creative work to drop in the month of March, with HCF, Ladbrokes, Belong and Furphy all included in the roundup. Listen for the pair’s positive outlook on the current state of Australian advertising, including how Australian agencies and advertisers alike are getting more comfortable with taking risks, landing engaging, yet simple, pieces of intelligent advertising.
