Aussie production company goes international after success of hit film

Australian film production company Causeway Films has expanded internationally and appointed a new CEO following the huge success of its latest film.

The company, founded by Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings, has opened a new London office and confirmed the appointment of Daniel Negret as its CEO.

The expansion comes after the global success of its July-released horror film, Talk To Me, which – after screening at Sundance, Berlin and SXSW this year – was acquired by A24 and became the company’s top genre release in North America with a domestic box office of $48.1 million. To date, the global box office takings amount to $89.4 million. The film was directed by Youtuber duo, Danny and Michael Philippou, also known as RackaRacka.

Causeway Films first launched in 2014 with the hugely popular horror flick, The Babadook, and is currently in post-production on two new features – the adaptation of award-winning short film, The Moogai, and New Zealand-Australian co-production, Went Up The Hill.

The appointment of Daniel Negret as CEO is a significant step for the company. Negret is joining from film financier, Head Gear Films, and will start the new role in London from 30 October.

“We’re delighted to bring on board Daniel to help expand our collaborations and partnerships internationally across film and television,” Causeway said in a statement.

“Having worked with Daniel for years in his role at Head Gear, we know he has the business and financial acumen, the understanding of our creative process and the integrity to help grow Causeway while staying true to what we’ve built with great passion: producing entertaining, socially relevant and ground-breaking stories that allow original voices to achieve international success.”

Negret added that it is an honour for him to join the Causeway team.

“I’ve long admired them, their films and the company they’ve built,” he said.

“I look forward to adding to their tremendous success and helping the company navigate through this exciting new chapter.”
