Aussies win big at 2024 Golden Globes

Some Aussie favourites have picked up huge wins at the 2024 Golden Globes.

Adelaide-born Sarah Snook took out the Best Actress – Television Series Drama category for her starring role as Siobhan Roy in HBO’s Succession beating out some other big names including Helen Mirren and Emma Stone.

Succession, which picked up nine nominations, predictably scored multiple wins including Best Television Series – Drama, while co-stars Matthew Macfadyen and Kieran Culkin took out the Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor categories respectively.

Meanwhile, Elizbeth Debicki picked up the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Netflix’s The Crown.

Debicki beat out the likes of Meryl Streep (Only Murders in the Building), Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) and Christina Ricci (Yellowjackets) for the gong.

Despite leading the nominated films with nine nods, including Margot Robbie for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Barbie only managed to pick up two wins, that being Best Original Song (Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For?) and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Other big winners on the night included Oppenheimer which picked up Best Motion Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan),  Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama (Cillian Murphy) and Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture (Robert Downey Jr.), as well as Netflix’s Beef and FX’s The Bear.
