Australian adman Matt Eastwood appointed global CCO at McCann Health

McCann Health has appointed former JWT chief creative officer and Australian expat Matt Eastwood as its global chief creative officer.

Eastwood replaces another Australian expatriate, Jeremy Perrott, who was fired by McCann Health last July after the company found he had breached the organisation’s code of conduct.

Eastwood left J. Walter Thompson in March last year as part of a restructure at the WPP-owned agency.

At the time of Eastwood’s departure, JWT’s worldwide CEO Tamara Ingram wrote: “We are reimagining the future of the agency. This is a structural decision that will allow us to be more agile, leverage our collective global bench strength and encourage the burgeoning diverse ‘maker culture’ growing within J. Walter Thompson. As such, we have no plans to replace the role.”

Eight months later, WPP merged JWT with Wunderman to create Wunderman Thompson, with Ingram appointed chair of the combined agency.

Prior to joining JWT in 2014, Eastwood had been chief creative officer at DDB New York having shifted from Sydney where he was the agency’s vice chairman and national creative director.

Eastwood also worked with M&C Saatchi in Melbourne and New York along with having served as chief creative officer at Y&R New York.

Rob Reilly, global creative chairman of McCann Worldgroup, said: “Matt is an immense talent, but an even better human. He is exactly the kind of global creative leader we need at this moment to continue McCann Health’s growth and commitment to do meaningful work for our brand partners.”

Eastwood added: “I’ve been impressed for some time with the creative renaissance that Rob Reilly and his teams have brought to all of McCann Worldgroup. And like many in the business, I’ve been especially aware of some of the outstanding and meaningful creative work that McCann Health in particular has been doing around the world befitting their reputation as one of the world’s most awarded global healthcare communications companies.”

McCann Health claims 60 offices in 20 countries over six continents. In Australia its operations are owned by local healthcare agency Ward 6 under an affiliate agreement.
