Australian exec to head new Malaysian studios
Former Warner Roadshow Studios president Michael Lake has been appointed CEO of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, which is currently under construction.
“The construction of this state-of-the-art facility adjacent to Singapore is truly exciting for the film and television production industries in Asia,” said Lake.
Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios is a collaboration between Khazanah Nasional Berhad and the UK’s Pinewood Shepperton. It was established in December 2009, to establish Malaysia as a hub for film and TV production, targetting both domestic and international projects.
Completion is expected by the end of 2013, and the facility will provide over 100,000 sq ft of film stages (ranging from 12,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft) and nearly 60,000 sq ft of TV studios (3 of them at 12,000 sq ft) plus a number of offices, workshops and post-production facilities. The studio will be next to the proposed Iskandar Financial District on one side and the recently announced Legoland theme park on the other, within a 700 acre site.
