Australians fight like Power Rangers in AR activation ahead of new film
Roadshow Films is giving consumers the chance to fight like Power Rangers, in an augmented reality activation ahead of the premiere of the new Saban’s Power Rangers film.
The AR activation, put together by Roadshow and Isobar, features an open movie studio which passers-by can enter. By using 3D simulation technology, players can watch themselves transform into Power Rangers on the screen in front of them and be immersed in the film’s world.
Each player of #RangerTraining can fight rock monsters, collect Ranger coins and unleash zords. Players can then upload their Power Ranger action moves to Instagram, for a chance to win tickets to see the movie.
An external screen can show family and friends what is going on inside the studio.
Dave Budge, executive creative director at Isobar said the new work demonstrates the benefits of digital out-of-home.
“This reboot isn’t the Power Rangers you think you know, and we needed to show that. So we created an opportunity that allows fans to see if they have what it takes to be on the team,” Budge said.
Bel Boyce, product marketing manager at Roadshow Films said the use of AR technology gives people the chance to feel a part of the Power Ranger team through real-time interaction.
The activation launched on March 10 in Melbourne, before moving to the Macquarie Centre in Sydney until March 18. It will then move to Pacific Fair in Queensland, on March 21.
