Avocados Australia’s ‘clever, punchy and fun’ ad wins Mumbrella’s Ad of the Month for May

Mumbrella has revealed the winner of the May edition of Ad of the Month, with the industry choosing between Hahn, McDonald's, eBay and Avocados Australia.

Taking home the title of Mumbrella’s Ad of the Month for May is Ikon Sydney’s Avocados Australia.

The campaign, which pokes fun at “millennial mortgage woes” and features “Hugh the Jackman”, won with 44.07% of respondents choosing the ad as their favourite.

Voters labelled the ad as an “original advertisement which is really entertaining” saying it is nice to “see marketing hitting the mark”.

Another respondent said: “Avocados Australia is clever, punchy and fun.”

“Challenges gender norms in a humorous way. Captures life moments where an avo’s can be consumed by any person. – Lists the health benefits without an actual list.”

Other readers said the ad is a “planners ad” and “the Australian Avocados TVC is brilliantly shot, a great creative and beautifully production designed and colour graded.”

Rob Martin Murphy, executive creative director at Ikon Sydney, told Mumbrella: “We’re really happy with the win. Hats off to our client Hort Innovation who backed the idea from pitch to production, and to all our partners who helped make it happen. You smashed it.”
