Awaken, Man of Many & AdUnion among AFR’s Fast 100 list

A number of media, marketing and digital businesses have been named in The Australian Financial Review’s Fast 100 and Fast Starters lists for 2021.

To be eligible for entry into the Fast 100, a business must have started trading on or before 1 July 2016, and have had turnover greater than $500,000 in 2016-17.

Entrants must provide three full years of revenue data, and are ranked according to the compound annual growth rate achieved over that period. All entrants must have more than one main customer, and the majority of their revenue must not be from government grants or other start-up funding.

A noticeable number of entrants have benefited from the sectors boosted by lockdowns, such as e-commerce.

Sydney-based digital marketing agency Zeal Digital came in highest on the Fast 100 at #25. It reported revenue of  $3 million in FY 2021, up 104.6% from its 2019 results.

Independent full-service media agency Awaken came in next at #27 on the list. The agency has recorded 100% client growth for four consecutive years, with a number of new clients coming on board in 2021, including Coates, Pier One – Marriot Hotel Group, McCarolls, and Husqvana, and growth from existing clients Energizer, Kraken Rum, Jose Cuervo, Panasonic, and others.

The agency has also grown its creative arm, developing award-winning TV commercials for several clients including Panasonic and Energizer, and launching an organic social offering.

The Awaken team has also increased, adding six new staff in the past 12 months alone.

Online marketing and digital solutions agency Signifi Media came in at #34 with a 90.5% increase in its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) since FY2019, to see revenues rise to $7.3 million.

Melbourne-based advertising agency AdUnion which specialises in data to match Connected TV ad views to online sales by households came in at #42, with a CAGR of 80.1% since FY2019, and a 2021 financial year revenue of $3.3 million

Mumbrella Publish Awards winner and men’s lifestyle publication Man of Many came in at #42, with a CAGR of 79.6% and revenue of $2.7 million.

At #47 was Brisbane-based full service, independent, advertising services agency Audience Group Agency.

Investment insights provider Livewire Markets came in at #63. Founded by Tom McKay and James Marlay in 2013 the website has grown to 250,000 monthly active users making it the fastest growing and most engaged investor website in the country.

Data and out-of-home media business, Shopper, came in at #86 and a FY 2021 revenue of $36.8 million.it now boasts a portfolio of over 420+ shopping centres.

Melbourne based digital marketing agency, Clickmatix came in at #90, while digital innovation agency Clevvi snuck in at #92.
