AWARD School launches workshop for aspiring applicants

AWARD School is launching a workshop for students as Clemenger BBDO’s creative director, Brendan Willenberg, joins AWARD as co-head in 2017.

The announcement:

AWARD has announced a new application workshop for aspiring students keen to make a break into the industry. Developed by the AWARD School NSW Heads, the workshop is a comprehensive one-day session where industry professionals will take students step-by-step through application tips, tricks, ammo and insider information. Essentially it’s everything a prospective AWARD School student will need to know to have the best shot at crafting a successful application.

In 2016, 500 people applied to AWARD School and only just over a third made it in. This workshop helps potential students understand what the judges will be looking for, how to communicate a great idea, and what they can expect from the experience of AWARD School. The specific skills needed for a successful application include:

  • Idea generation skills
  • An understanding of the key creative tools for each media
  • Presentation skills

The announcement of the workshop coincides with the appointment of Brendan Willenberg, Creative Director at Clemenger BBDO joining Niccola Phillips of M&C Saatchi, as AWARD School Head NSW for 2017.

AWARD Chair and Managing Partner of The Sweet Shop, Wilf Sweetland welcomes Brendan – “We are honoured to have Brendan joining the AWARD Committee as School Head for NSW. As a former AWARD School top student, Brendan knows all too well how important it is to have access to industry leaders and mentors at the start of your creative career. Brendan and Niccola have developed this workshop with this in mind, to assist anyone who has the talent but lacks the confidence, to give AWARD School a shot. This course is part of the continuing AWARD initiative to provide the best creative education opportunities in the world.”

Speaking of his own experience – “I owe a lot to AWARD School and it’s a great honour to be able to repay that debt and help a new batch of creative minds start their careers. I was energised by my early conversations with the committee about their ambitions for AWARD School and feel confident that we can make a difference to the industry, particularly on the issue of diversity.” Brendan Willenberg, Creative Director, Clemenger BBDO.

Every year, throughout Australasia, AWARD School accepts up to 200 students from around 500 applications. Applications for AWARD School 2017 will open in February 2017.
