The Bachelor tops night for Ten despite lowest audience of season

The fourth episode of The Bachelor, which saw the dreams of two more hopefuls crushed, was the most watched non-news show last night, pulling a metro audience of 771,000, on a low key ratings night.

The female contestants spent some time getting to know Richie in last night's episode of The Bachelor.

The figure, while the lowest of the season so far, helped Ten capture an audience share of 16%, ahead of Seven with 15.8%. Nine won the night with a share of 18.9%. The Bachelor was also the most watched show in the 25 to 54 and under 55 age demographic.

Richie’s quest for love drew 819,000 on Wednesday night, down slightly on the 824,000 who tuned in for last Thursday’s episode, which according OzTAM, has drawn the highest online seven-day catch-up of 2016, with 102,000.

ABC’s The Checkout, which aired last night at 8:00pm, did well, drawing 675,000 metro viewers, up from last week’s 602,000.

Nine’s live football, which saw the Broncos edge out the Dragons 12-8, was seen by 412,000, with audiences evenly split between Sydney and Brisbane.

News again dominated the evening with Seven taking the two top spots. It attracted 1.08m at 6:00pm, falling to 994,000 at 6:30pm while Nine’s 6pm bulletin drew 942,000, dropping to 879,000 at 6:30pm.

Seven’s The Chase attracted 693,000, behind A Current Affair on Nine with 755,000.

The Project on Ten was seen by 692,000 while Home Away on Seven drew 685,000. Over on Nine, Hot Seat’s metro audience was 566,000.
