Bad Moms 2 nears $3m in premiere weekend box office earnings, can’t beat Thor

The second of the Bad Moms series collected almost $3m at the box office on its first weekend, but it wasn’t enough to knock Disney’s Thor: Ragnarok off the top spot.

Bad Moms 2 stars Susan Sarandon, Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell, as mums preparing for Christmas.

Released on November 2 in Australia, the film sees mums Amy, Carla and Kiki struggle to cope when their mothers come to visit for the holidays. It made $2.839m across 440 screens on its first weekend.

Meanwhile, Thor: Ragnarok collected an additional $6.681m across 781 screens, according to the Motion Pictures Distributors of Australia.

Since its premiere, the film has made more than $20m. 

In third place was horror film Jigsaw, directed by the Spierig brothers, Michael and Peter, which grossed $928,620 across 205 screens on its premiere weekend.

The eighth instalment of the Saw franchise, the film is set a decade after the death of the Jigsaw killer, during the police investigation of a new succession of murders.

Blade Runner 2049 fell from second to fourth, making $363,760 over the weekend.

In fifth place was kids film My Little Pony: The Movie, earnings $363,206 across 213 screens on its first weekend at box office.

It tells the story of Twilight Sparkles, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Rarity, who try to save Ponyville form a dark force.
