‘Bandit’ web sites swindling Aussie advertisers

Australian online advertisers are being “swindled” by sites serving 20% of their ads to foreign audiences, claims the boss of Drivepm.

The accusation comes from Liam Walsh, who previously headed the sales team at Fairfax Digital and was also GM of eMitch. He accuses some large homegrown sites of being “bandits” for running the adds, but blames media agencies and advertisers for failing to check. He says:

“With our local larger websites, upwards of 20% of their traffic is foreign and it is being sold without mentioning that 20% is wasted. This is not a grown up way to do business.”
