Two words, Michael: Don’t sing
Remember that time a breathless Marilyn Monroe sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to JFK?
National treasure Barrie Cassidy’s visit to ABC News Breakfast this morning took an unexpected turn.
After the Insiders’ host offered his commentary on the day’s politics, host Michael Rowland had a surprise:
“Can I finish with two words, Barrie? Happy birthday.”
A slightly mortified Cassidy – who Wikipedia tells Dr Mumbo is now 69 – responded: “I have one of those every year, but thank you.”
But Cassidy’s expression was nothing compared with that of co-host Virginia Trioli as she realised that Rowland was going to start singing, and expected her to join in, too.
She pleaded: “We’re not going to sing the whole thing are we? Okay…”
Perhaps not fully appreciating the gesture, Cassidy confessed: “I don’t feel like John Kennedy.”

Should the desire ever arise, Dr Mumbo is certain that a glittering career on the more lucrative populist shores of commercial television awaits Mr Rowland.
