Bauer Media axes five more mags including custom publications, Yours, Recipes+ and Homes+
Bauer Media boss Paul Dykzeul has swung the axe on five publications in one of his first big moves as the publisher’s new CEO.
The German-owned publisher will close Yours, Recipes+ and Homes+. In addition, Bauer has closed custom publication Myer Emporium and will stop publishing Weight Watchers’ custom magazine in the new year, Mumbrella understands.
Recipes+ is set to go from January next year, as well as Homes+ and Yours
I am astounded by the closure of Yours, which has been a star performer in the Bauer stable and built so strongly in recent years. I’m sorry for the great team on that mag – this is a shock.

@Mr Max – I share your view here. That title and the untapped 50+ audience in Australia has huge potential, print and/or digital. The UK version has seen huge growth and success over the last 10+ years so it’s surprising to see a title, in a growth market, meet the axe.
Hmmm. This has happened at Bauer before. I wonder if someone wise might see the enormous potential of Yours position in the marketplace and resurrect it elsewhere? From figures over the past 12 months, it was going strongly, so this seems like the strangest decision – especially while other titles in the Bauer stable are floundering.
I gave up all other magazines because they were too banal and too expensive. I enjoyed Yours and won’t look for a substitute.
I wonder if someone else might see the potential of this title and snap it up to resurrect it elsewhere? That has happened to Bauer before, and considering how strongly Yours was doing, it appears to still have a viable place in that 45+ market. This axing just does not make sense, especially in light that other titles are floundering and have been on the line for years, but are kept going.

I am in shock about Yours, but I thought Homes+ was doing well too? I thought Homes+ was a great mag to have in the market to balance out the more high-end homes titles like Home Beautiful and House & Garden.
As a former Bauer employee, this just made me sad and I never celebrate the closing of a magazine, no matter how poorly it’s doing. So many people slog their guts out on these titles and really give it their all and to just have the rug pulled out from under you is devastating.
Get it together Bauer. If a mag isn’t doing well, WHY do you still lag behind in your digital offerings?

How many CEOs has Bauer had over the last three years? How many great people have left or been made redundant?
Print is a dead horse and the antique advertising revenue model isn’t working online. Yet the people in charge in Germany keep thinking they’ll find a CEO who can resurrect the glory days of print magazines.
Yours was a great magazine that I will really miss, certainly won’t buy the boring Women’s Weekly or the rubbishy Women’s Day.
I am astounded and very sad at the closure of Yours magazine. I have purchased and then subscribed to this issue since the first edition and find it to be the very best magazine on the market. Very informative and interesting articles for real people. I certainly will not be buying any other women’s magazines which are based mainly on gossip and lies.
It’s such a shame you are not carrying on with Yours magazine… It’s the only decent one around with interesting articles and no rubbish like most others. It would be nice if you could reconsider. C.D
Yours is an amazing magazine, popular and worth buying compared to ridiculous paper wasting drivel such as New Idea and Woman’s Day. No comparison. Crazy decision yet again in the magazine world.
Just found this great mag a few weeks ago astonished its fininshed I switched after sick of WW and WD magazines not being interesting enough to read from cover to cover so no more purchases from me.
This is a great magazine, my friends and I look forward to reading such informative and interesting articles, there is nothing to compare on the market for our age group, you are making a big mistake by taking away, what were you thinking.?
I cannot believe they would axe a quality magazine like “Yours”
which catered for such a big slice of the market, that had quality content instead of cheap, trashy “celebrity” articles, which at the best of times were questionable as to their veracity.
The other magazines are as above mentioned or boring.

Yours and Homes + magazines are great mags . It would have been a much better idea to get rid of the Auto Magazines and Fashion, more than enough of those published , ..Shame on you ….

Very disappointing to hear of Yours closure. Doesn’t make sense as only mag for women that is not filled with very doubtful stories on boring celebrities and I understand the UK version does very well.
I find it hard to believe that such an informative magazine targeted to the over 50s could just disappear off the shelves so suddenly. This magazine had provided much enjoyment to many readers over the last 4 years and it will be greatly missed by all. It is a magazine that relates to everyone’s everyday life. Hopefully another publisher will pick it up and continue with the publication.
I am so disappointed to hear about Homes+ Magazine. It was affordable, with affordable content – great for people on a budget. The other homemaker magazines available have a lot of pretty pictures but are mostly full of products the majority of us would find ridiculously expensive.
Devastated that Homes+ will no longer be available. Such a great magazine for the everyday person looking for inspiration and ideas for the many. It was affordable and recognised brands of different affordability.
I have just found out about Homes+ being cancelled. Devastated. Really was the only magazine I bought over the past months. I really liked the stories about the readers homes and found great ideas in the mag. I’m a 60+ reader and now have no idea what to buy.

Disappointment & a sense of sadness that Bauer Media must not even attempt to be aware of public opinion re their decision to axe Yours. A fortnightly magazine with excellent & varied articles relevant to many women & not only the target group over 50.
Articles were varied & interesting & not repetitive & the presentation printed format ensured a relaxed & enjoyable read. Perfect for the many Women in Australia who may not be able to access digital media. This was the only Australian magazine in print not full of gossip, innuendo & literary rubbish.
Shame on you Bauer Media.
Another decision that shows you just don’t care
I was devasted and disappointed to learn of Yours magazine being discontinued . I was a subscriber and read every edition from first print. And being fortnightly it was time to read it thoroughly. What now for the over 50’s women? Shame on such a decision Bauer Media.
What a bloody shame, its hard enough to find a magazine that quietens your brain so you can simply sit & switch off, but also enjoy reading up on all issues relevant to women & men over 50…not useless ridiculous dribble – thats just plain rot.!!
MORE SO…. I cannot tell you how many times I went to purchase YOURS unable to find a copy – this would happen so many times.. I lost count…
A true shame – really – I gave up on the overpriced Marie Claire monthly magazine for adverts…ages ago…even the Womans Day has become so painful…. & now this…. my Mum informed me,,, no wonder I could nt find a copy again just last month.!!!! AGGGGGHHHH…
Please bring it back – not all of us want to read on the telephone….i still buy books – there are people who still chill with a great magazine, cool afternoon breeze and a cuppa.!!!
Yours was the best magazine for most of us over 40! Very disappointed at its demise. I know my friends will agree. Some times top sellers are not quality, Yours was. Lois
I’ll be reverting to the English mags that don’t wallow in Hollywood rubbish.
I’m so disappointed, my favourite read Homes+ will not be available any longer. I loved looking at what other people had done with their homes, plus the HIGH / LOW pages were inspiring. All I want now is to find out how I can get my hands on as many back copies as possible. So sad it’s not going to be on the shelves any more.
Every time i went to buy Yours magazine it was sold out and i had to shop around till i got one as they always went fast ,yesterday i heard that
Bauer sold it out by cancelling it ,why ??? It was the best and only magazine for the over fifties and i enjoyed it immensely ,i felt the articles and stories were catered just for me and i feel like i have lost a friend

Very disappointed you dropped Recipes+ and Homes+…as some one else has already said not all of us can afford high end magazines….loved the high /low price comparisons of home items which showed that you can have a stylish home without spending a fortune
I was disappointed to discover that Yours has been put to sleep, i purchased each issue and enjoyed the content.
I am 50+ and have enjoyed different magazines over the years. There is now too many trashy, gossipy celebrity magazines.
Give me Mindfood and British Good Housekeeping any day!!!!

BRING BACK RECIPES+
Get rid of other food magazines like Super Food Ideas. They do not cater for budget households, whereas RECIPES+ had a specific budget weekly meal plan for a whole month. I planned my shopping based on this magazine. It was perfect for me a single Mum on a small wage and Centrelink budget.
Bring it back please.
I was recently thinking about Yours Mag- then I came across a summer issue at Coles. I started looking for it in all stores wondering why I couldn’t find a new issue anywhere. I was looking forward to doing the puzzles in it! Now I want to find the issues I missed.
So disappointed to hear the mag’s not continuing!

Still lamenting the loss of Yours magazine and have resorted to buying the British version of same which luckily my local newsagent stocks. I will never get over reading the editor’s letter announcing the closure of our Australian version! It was a complete shock as I had recommended Yours to my friends and they’d become just as thankful to find such a GREAT magazine. Impossible to fathom how the ‘business’ mind works!! A ridiculous decision as far as I can see and glad to get this off my chest after finding this site. BRING BACK ‘YOURS’ Australia now!!
