Bauer Media axes five more mags including custom publications, Yours, Recipes+ and Homes+

Bauer Media boss Paul Dykzeul has swung the axe on five publications in one of his first big moves as the publisher’s new CEO.

The German-owned publisher will close Yours, Recipes+ and Homes+. In addition, Bauer has closed custom publication Myer Emporium and will stop publishing Weight Watchers’ custom magazine in the new year, Mumbrella understands.

Recipes+ is set to go from January next year, as well as Homes+ and Yours

Fortnightly title Yours only launched four years ago.

It is unclear how many staff have been affected by the decision.

Commenting on the closures Dykzeul said: “These are essential changes so we can anticipate and respond to changes in the publishing market and are in line with our previously-announced strategy. The organisation will ensure all employees impacted by the closure of these titles are well supported to find future opportunities”.

Dykzeul flagged potential redundancies and the axing to titles in an interview with Mumbrella earlier this year.

His comments came off the back of a major reshuffle to its executive line-up and the closure of its custom publishing arm BauerWorks – his first big decision for the embattled publisher since taking over from Nick Chan as CEO.

At the time, a release said BauerWorks would be “integrated into various parts of the Bauer Media business”, with director of operations and general manager Eugene Varricchio to depart Bauer as part of the changes at the end of September.

But it appears as though that integration will no longer be the case.

It also comes the same week as several redundancies at the Australian Women’s Weekly.

The latest cull comes four months after Bauer Media axed its Good Health editorial team, shifting the monthly title’s production to Bauer New Zealand.

Earlier this year, Bauer Media also lost a major defamation case to Rebel Wilson, and saw the departure of Australian Women’s Weekly editor Kim Doherty, and general manager for fashion, healthy and beauty Fiona Legdin.
