Bauer’s distribution problem
It seems Bauer Media had something of a distribution glitch today – at least with its emails to Dr Mumbo.
This afternoon Dr Mumbo has received ‘The Bauer Insider’ newsletter 1,937 times (at least that’s the number he tallied before he lost count).
In case you wondered what that many emails looks like in Gmail, here is an abridged version.
And on.
And on.
And on.
And on.
Until:
The emails were addressed to what must be nearly every media agency exec and marketer not only in the database, but in Australia.
Fortunately the six hour onslaught has now stopped. Dr Mumbo waits to see if he receives 2,000 copies of Cleo next month as compensation.
Bauer must be breaking the Australian anti-spam law – it’s not just this massive ‘glitch’ above and despite unsubscribing from their spam magazine emails that pop up daily in my inbox, they keep on coming – and coming – and coming….. Lets make it clear that these are Bauer mags I’ve never heard of, didn’t subscribe to and have absolutely zero interest in. AND, when emails for a particular mag do stop coming and they actually do, finally, honour my unsubscribe request for a certain Bauer mag, they begin spamming with another Bauer magazine, and so on, and so on. Gotta be illegal! Infuriating!
