Two Australian actresses have been confirmed in the lead roles of a new film co-written by American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis.

Bella Heathcote and Penelope Mitchell have scored roles in The Curse of Downers Grove.

The film is currently in development and will begin in spring of this year.

The film is directed by Derick Martini, director of Lymelife with Alec Baldwin. It was penned by Ellis, adapted from a Michael Hornburg novel and produced by Jason Dubin, Oren Segal and Chiara Trento.

Heathcote was recently named Variety’s Top Ten Actors to watch. She is a Neighbours alumni who more recently starred alongside Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows.

Mitchell can currently be seen on ABC’s Next Stop Hollywood, produced by Matchbox Pictures, trying to make it in LA during pilot season. She was also in Hemlock Grove, a TV series from executive producer Eli Roth for Netflix.

The film also stars Lucas Till of X-Men: First Class and the forthcoming Stoker with Jackie Weaver, Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska.

Locally, both Heathcote and Mitchell are represented by Joanna Milosz for JM Agency.
