2013 – The best Mumbrella comments of the year

Mumbrella reader Barry commented on a story about Fairfax boss Garry Linnell which featured a picture of Linnell sporting a very intense stare.

2. “Perhaps they could pay writers in Post-It notes? A few packs of those puppies are worth way more than $50.”

A piece of branded content on women’s lifestyle website Mamamia focusing on the team’s love of Post-It notes came at a time when the publisher was being criticised for paying contributors just $50 per piece.

3. “It needs a laugh track to give it the credibility it deserves.”

Reader James on the decision of Sydney radio station 2GB to launch its own rival Media Watch program hosted by Nights presenter Steve Price and controversial News Corp columnist Andrew Bolt.

4. “Is that a pooch in your cooch?”

In one of the more amusing comment threads of 2013, one reader responded to the Gold Coast Bulletin’s headline “Is that a schnauzer down your trousers”, an example provided by editorial boss Campbell Reid to his staff as a great way to grab the attention of readers.

5. “It may be rash to bone Tash, but it would have been harsh to bone Tarsh.”

Readers responded to the boning of presenter Natasha Exelby from Ten’s breakfast show Wake Up just 16 days after its launch.

6. “I know he is an evil genius, but I have to say, Murdoch comes across as a very down to earth reasonable billionaire. Must be his Australian heritage.”

A reader comments on a door-stop interview of Rupert Murdoch involving ABC Darwin reporter Andrew Thompson where Murdoch was asked if he would be partaking in the nightlife while in town.

7. “Rugby League – giving strippers something to do during the day since 1998.”

One of the many responses to a Fox Sports Rugby HQ clip that included slow-mo footage of cheerleaders stripping down to their bikinis with the accompanying description: “It’s The Girls doing what they do best”.
