Bet 365 launches Robert Whittaker doco ahead of UFC bout
Gaming company Bet365 has launched a video showcasing Australian UFC fighter Robert Whittaker ahead of his mixed martial arts bout against Kevin Gastelum in Perth this weekend.
The project is the first time bet365 have filmed a short sport documentary style video for the Australian market.
Bet365 Social Media Manager, Liam Geoghegan, said: “We aim to give our fans exclusive insights into the biggest sports events in the country which truly gives us a point of difference.
“Our films aim to tell a story and take our audience on a journey. This creates a deeper connection with the audience which adds exceptional value to our brand.”
Created by production house, Crater, ‘Becoming a Champion’ tells Whittaker’s story to the championship with cameos from the fighter’s former head coach Henrry Perez, 10-time world Muay Thai champion John Wayne Parr, prvious contender James Te Huna and UFC referee John Sharpe.
Simon Morehead, writer and director of the film, said: “We were extremely lucky that Crater had the ability to assist a brand new to the Australian market by approaching their campaign content from another angle to make them standout from their competitors.”
“Upon ideation we were given an open brief with two executions at hand; one that it must tell a story, and two, that it must create hype and discussion around UFC 234 and Robert Whittaker.
“Objectives were set knowing we had no access to content provided from the UFC.”
Steven Farrer, head of production at Crater, said “our team not only produced a snapshot documentary, but were also there for bet365 upon initial production to advise on strategy and deliverability.”
The campaign will be running on social platforms.

Great to see Rob getting support.
He’s a great ambassador for a brand. Clean image, family man, overcomes adversity, well spoken and authentic. He just competes in a challenging sport for sponsors.
He’s the exact opposite of the players in more main stream sports who end up in the news for the wrong reasons and prove to be a brand nightmare. They are just easier to sponsor.

This is fantastic. Everyone involved deserves some sort of head pat.
