Australian runs ‘Questions of Perception’ sales promo
The Australian is running a marketing campaign aiming at increasing the frequency that existing readers buy the paper.
The “Questions of perception” campaign has been created by Sydney agency Below and Beyond as a means of extending the brand’s new “Search, Know, More” positioning.
The promotion – which has been running for the last fortnight and ends today – offers daily prizes for those who respond to a question of the day. There is a prize pool worth over $50, 000.
Below and Beyond national managing director said Michael Blumberg said: “The point of this was to give The Australian a boost in retail, newsagencies, through offering an incentive to engage. But it being The Australian, rather than going for a chance to win kind of incentive we embellished the ‘Search, Know, More’ brand platform and asked readers their view on a series of subjects.”
The Australian’s marketing manager Mark Gilbert said in a statement: “Our focus for this campaign was to target our young and more affluent audience with an engaging in paper daily promotion.”
I wonder if they paid off the artist Jesús González Rodríguez like Mercedes did when they did the same sort of poster. It’s obviously not protected by copyright but it would be the right thing to do.

I wonder if they paid this guy — or just took it and hoped nobody would notice:

Data harvesting. We’re happy to offer opinions Oz, but don’t treat readers like commodities to be exploited. We’re not as dumb as you think we are.
