Bieber fever helps Australia’s Got Talent eclipse 1m

Justin Bieber’s appearance on Australia’s Got Talent helped the song contest stage something of a recovery last night, picking up ratings from 918,000 last week to more than 1m.

Running from 7.30pm until 9.15pm on Seven and rating with 1.1m, the show wiped the floor with Nine’s US version of The Voice, which slid again, from 584,000 to 529,000 total viewers.

But it could not beat MasterChef on Ten, on at 7pm, which pulled in 1.426m.

The cooking show won in every advertising demographic, with Australia’s Got Talent coming second in 18-49, Seven’s Home & Away second in 16-39 and Mrs Brown’s Boys, also on Seven, runner-up in 25-54.

MasterChef was one of five shows to eclipse 1m viewers, with Seven News and Nine News with Mrs Brown’s Boys and Home & Away as the only 1m+ shows.

The live screening of the Tour de France was the most watched show on SBS, pulling in 301,000 viewers in the late-night 10pm time slot as Australia stayed up to watch Aussie cyclist Cadel Evans.
