Welcome to Best of the Week, written on Saturday morning at beautiful Sisters Beach, Tasmania, after a couple of days in Sydney for the Future of TV Advertising conference. Twenty glorious days without travel to the mainland now stretch in front of me.

The debate has never meant anything. Most Labor leaders wipe the floor with their liberal counterparts and yet most still lost the elections they stood for. And the debates are anodyne focus grouped key talking point boredom.
Throw them into a hostile audience of all voters. Much better television. Much better grasp of what’s going on and how across things they are.
