Box office: Despicable Me 4 finally topples Inside Out 2
Despicable Me 4 has finally claimed the top spot at the national box office this weekend, after being blocked from the top for the past three weeks by the record-breaking Pixar animation, Inside Out 2.
Despicable Me 4 brought in a further $4.84 million in its fourth week, enough to pip Inside Out 2’s $4.61 million and take pole position.
Inside Out 2 has taken $46.1 million over its five-week run, with Despicable Me 4 bringing its total to $33.36 million.
Coming in at third is Universal’s Twisters – the sequel to the 1996 film – which took $3.65 million in its opening weekend, trumping both A Quiet Place: Day One which added $1.2 million in its third week, and Fly Me to the Moon, which brought in $936,000 – not that impressive considering it stars Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, and the Apollo 11 moon landing.
In sixth place was another new release, the Hindi/Tamil movie Indian 2, which brought in $456,000, while horror film MaXXXine brought in $357,800.
The Bikeriders, starring Austin Butler and Tom Hardy, brought in $352,000 in its second week, taking its cumulative Box Office to $1.66 million, while Bad Boys: Ride Or Die is still bringing in an audience, taking $287,000 in its sixth week.
Rounding out the top ten, The Garfield Movie, took $271,000 to nudge its box office to $9.68 million.
The total national box office was $18.05 million for the weekend.
