How to be the story
While Sydney tabloids The Sunday Telegraph and sister title The Daily Telegraph have long held an obsession with all things criminal and indeed all things sporting, Dr Mumbo today salutes News Corp photographer Brett Costello for not only combining the two things, but then filling both the major roles in the story too.
As Olympic venue Rio continues to do what was previously thought impossible and with each day makes itself look a little less palatable for tourists, Costello had his bag of photo gear snatched when he was distracted in a local cafe.

But that wasn’t a big enough part of the story. Not content with the role of victim, Costello then also solved the crime.
The newspaper reports that Costello spotted the thief, who appeared to have later got inside the Olympics venue without accreditation, and had him arrested.
Costello can now only improve his contribution to News Corp’s coverage further if he steps in for an injured athlete and wins a medal.
