Brisbane radio ratings: B105 clinches top spot in survey three ahead of rival Nova

B105 has continued its audience growth in the competitive Brisbane radio market, according to the third GfK Radio 360 radio ratings survey of the year – and the first including a new streaming audio measurement.

The SCA network won both in the crucial breakfast slot and overall, finishing more than a point ahead of Nova 106.9 in both respects, in the survey periods from 26 February to 1 April and from 16 April to 20 May.

B105’s Stav, Abby and Matt came out on top.

Triple M also performed well across the board, with healthy growth overall and across mornings, afternoons and drive.

But there won’t be much cause for celebration at KIIS97.3 today, with falls overall and in all key timeslots bar drive.

In terms of overall share results, B105 is number one at 13.4% (up 0.1%), Nova is second on 12.4% (up 0.6%), Triple M came in third with 11.5% (up 1.8%), KIIS was fourth on 9.9% (down 0.7%), and 4BH comfortably came in at fifth spot with 8.1% (up 2.2%).

In breakfast, B105’s Stav, Abby and Matt is on top for the second consecutive month, with a share of 14.3% that grew 0.2%, after clinching back number one from Nova’s Ash, Luttsy and Susie O’Neill in survey two. Nova breakfast saw a modest 0.3% increase in share this time around, sitting at 13.2%.

Jack Ball, B105 content director, said everyone at the station was grateful to see its momentum continue, winning the lion’s share of ratings over the last 12 months.

“Led by Stav, Abby and Matt who have now won four of the last five surveys, the team is so thankful that all the work they put in, including travelling to the Allen’s Factory in Victoria to pick up boxes of Brown Snake Lollies to honour our mighty Brisbane River, is paying off and connecting with our audience,” Ball said.

“We’ll have to keep an eye on our brother station Triple M who have deservedly had an almighty result today too.”

Triple M’s Marto, Margaux and Dan grew their breakfast share by a whopping 1.6% to hit 10.8%, while KIIS’s Robin, Terry and Kip fell 1.0% to 9.5%. 4BC Breakfast slid sharply by 1.6% to 7.4%.

ABC Brisbane’s breakfast show continues its poor run after a rough 2022 and a disappointing start to 2023. In survey three, it slid slightly by 0.2% to a 7.9% share.

In Drive, B105’s popular Carrie and Tommy grew their share again by a very healthy 1.2% to 13.2%, but it wasn’t enough to beat out top-ranking Nova 106.9’s Ricki-Lee, Tim Blackwell and Joel Creasey on 14.4%, despite that show’s 0.7% drop.

Triple M’s The Rush Hour with Leisel Jones, Liam and Dobbo clawed back some of its survey two loss, increasing 0.5% points to 9.7%.

This survey marks the launch of the revamped model, which breaks out and details streaming numbers for the first time. While those figures are included in the overall results, they provide an insight into the performance of each network’s streaming strategies.

For example, the streaming share for breakfast in survey three was:

  • B105: 6.2%
  • Nova106.9: 8.9%
  • Triple M: 9.0%
  • KIIS97.3: 8.2%
  • ABC: 15%

And the streaming share overall for survey three was:

  • B105: 7.4%
  • Nova106.9: 9.3%
  • Triple M: 8.8%
  • KIIS97.3: 9.0%
  • ABC: 9.7%
