Brisbane radio ratings: The crucial breakfast race heats up with fierce rivals B105 and Nova neck-and-neck

B105 has lost its radio ratings crown, with a drop in overall share putting it just behind fierce rival Nova 106.9, according to the fourth GfK Radio 360 ratings survey.

The SCA network saw a 1.1-point drop to a 11.7% overall share in the 16 April to 24 June period – a fraction behind Nova, sitting on 11.8% overall, which was down by 0.6 points on survey three.Logos for Brisbane radio stations B105 and Nova 106.9

Six weeks ago, the gap was much more convincing – more than a point difference between the pair.

4BH enjoyed a 1.4-point jump in its overall share to 9.8. Elsewhere, the landscape remained relatively steady with Triple M sitting at 10.9% overall (up 0.3), KIIS 97.3 at 9.7% (down 0.2), 612 ABC Brisbane at 5.2% (down 0.2), and 4BC at 6.4% (down 0.1).

In the crucial breakfast timeslot, B105’s Stav, Abby and Matt remain on top for the third consecutive survey with a 12.7% share, although they copped a 1.6-point hit this time around. That drop saw Nova 106.9’s Ash, Luttsy and Susie O’Neill edge closer to number one with a 12.5% share, although they too saw a 0.7% fall.

B105 content director Jack Ball said of his breakfast hosts: “They’re three genuine friends who want to start your morning with a heap of laughs, a heap of music, and a heap of Allen’s Brown Snake lollies.

“We’re forever grateful for all of our listeners who choose to start their mornings with B105.”

Triple M’s breakfast trio Marto, Margaux and Dan continue to grow their audience, with a 0.9-point increase to 11.7%. KIIS 97.3’s Robin, Terry and Kip essentially clawed back survey three’s hefty loss, up 0.9 points to 10.4%.

In the Drive slot, B105’s syndicated show Carrie and Tommy took a 1.6-point hit to 11.6% while Nova’s Ricki-Lee, Tim Blackwell and Joel Creasey remain comfortably on top with 14.1, down modestly by 0.3 points.

This survey marks the second outing of a revamped ratings model, which includes detailed streaming numbers. The figures are included in overall results, but the breakout gives a river insight into how networks are faring in the digital stakes.

For example, the streaming share for breakfast was:

  • B105: 6.0%
  • Nova 106.9: 8.5%
  • Triple M: 10.5%
  • KIIS 97.3: 6.9%
  • ABC: 14.8%

And the streaming share overall was:

  • B105: 6.5%
  • Nova 106.9: 8.2%
  • Triple M: 8.2%
  • KIIS 97.3: 7.5%
  • ABC: 7.8%
